Simple Hot Lemon-Ginger Drink

Simple Hot Lemon-Ginger Drink

Keep it simple.

Today I seek blissful simplicity. Isn’t the root of happiness often the feeling that there is less to do? A vision of sitting on a beach during vacation comes to mind, with nothing to do other than listen to the waves and the breeze.

In cooking and life, how much of what we “need” to do is our own creation, and how much can we let go because it doesn’t matter that much? I personally find myself trying to achieve perfection (whatever that means!) through complexity. My idea of perfect is sometimes too dang complicated. The reality is that simple is great – sometimes better because the process leaves you feeling less stressed and able to enjoy.

I am currently in the throws of a few too many life changes – the birth of my second child, moving to a different state and my oldest now going to school. It has all been nothing short of manic. I’ve decided that with so much going on, I need to be conscious of what I am adding to the list of things that need to be done. I would also like to keep from losing my mind! With so much to think about right now, I have decided that there is a real need to think less about about meals and about food, so I have been simplifying. And the more I cook simply, the more I find I enjoy the food and the process that surrounds simple meals. I enjoy not having so much to think about and I find that once the meal is made that I slow down and enjoy it more.

This hot drink is inspired by “keeping it simple.” It is also a drink I find brings joy and calm. The origination of this recipe came from living in our new house without much. We lived a little too simply for a while – without furniture and basic household items, and this recipe sprang from that state. I find my best recipes often come from scarcity. I also think the best food is simple, pure and easy to enjoy.

No need to think too much or measure in this recipe. Substitute and add whatever sounds good or you have on hand. I’ve tried it with limes, turmeric and coconut oil – all have been enjoyed.

This drink can be a reset for your mind, or maybe just a calm moment amidst the storm in your life. Seek refuge in this drink for a moment while maybe finding ways to further simplify your life.
