Tahini-Date Coffee Creamer (Dairy and Nut free)

As someone who has exhaustively tried and overplayed dairy-free coffee creamers, lately I have been dreaming about an easy, tasty, whole ingredient, nut-free, grain-free, non-dairy coffee creamer to add some variety to my daily routine and doesn’t mean buying an overly processed creamer. It is so fun to now have the recipe for this awesome creamer in my back pocket!

Coffee is a very important part of my morning. It is arguably the reason I get out of bed at 6:30am when my kids are ready to rock and roll. 

I love coffee in all forms. I have even learned to love it black – something my child-self would make a super grossed-out face at… but it’s true. I can drink my coffee black. But you know what really gets me out of bed in the morning? 

Lattes. 

So how about those of us who sometimes can get away with having a little dairy, but for the most part need to avoid it? And even more complicated, how about those of us allergic to the all the best almond coffee creamers, avoid cane sugar, avoid grain or simply aren’t into the additives you find in most coffee creamers on the market? Coffee creamer has been hanging out there as something I have only been partially satisfied with, so this recipe for tahini-date creamer is one of my new favorite things and a very welcome addition to my morning coffee.

Here are a couple of variations on the recipe:

  • Swap out the tahini for sun butter, which adds an essence of burnt caramel. 
  • Add the chocolate powder or don’t – it’s great both ways. 

And finally – not only does this steam great the morning after it’s been stored in the fridge (sometimes I add a little fat when I steam it to add body and foam), please try it fresh out of the blender in your coffee. It has a lovely bit of foam after its been freshly blended that is reminiscent of the foam on a latte! Make this one for next coffee friend, oh man; you’re in for a treat.

Tahini-Date Coffee Creamer (Dairy and Nut Free)

Delicious coffee creamer made with allergen friendly, whole ingredients

Equipment

  • High speed blender

Ingredients
  

  • 6 Dates pitted
  • 4 cups Boiling Water
  • 1/4 cup Tahini (I use SOOM FOODS)
  • 1/8 cup Chocolate Powder (Optional)

Instructions
 

  • Combine pitted dates and hot water in a heat proof container and allow dates to soak for at least 10 minutes.
  • Add dates, hot water, tahini, and chocolate powder to a high speed blender and blend for 30 seconds until creamer is very smooth and no large pieces of date remain.
  • Pour directly into coffee and serve. Any leftover creamer can be stored in an air tight, heat proof container or jar in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Shake well before using leftovers, they will separate.
